Reiki is most often translated as "universal life force energy" and is pronounced "Ray Key". It is a combination of two Japanese words - Rei which means "Spirit" or "Universe" and Ki which is "life force energy".
Reiki is a beautiful gentle, heartfelt, spiritual technique. A natural, vibrational, hands-on healing practice which utilises the presence of universal life force energy that supports the body's self healing ability.
The system of Reiki was founded in Japan in the early 1900's by Mikao Usui and has been passed down from teacher to student since this time. It was introduced to the West in the mid-1900's by Hawayo Takata who was born in Hawaii of Japanese descent.
Today Reiki is widely used throughout the world as both a self-help tool and to assist others in a multitude of situations from private practices to hospitals.
Reiki is known to assist in:
Reduction of stress and pain;
Reduced levels of anxiety;
Improvement of sleep patterns;
Replenished energy levels;
Enhanced sense of well-being.
Reiki Sessions
My Reiki sessions are gently and professionally administered in a tranquil setting. I am a certified Reiki Master Teacher and Practitioner and believe that Reiki is a wonderful integrative process which assists us with improved health and wellbeing.
One or a series of sessions may be required.
Sessions involve you lying down or sitting comfortably while fully clothed. I place my hands lightly either on the chakra points or above the body in the aura, allowing a free flow of universal energy from the heart. Relax, enjoy and Be. As simple as that.
Some background to Reiki
The word Reiki is Japanese and the symbols used to depict the word are Chinese, meaning “Life Energy”. The name however is not an indicator of its cultural origin. There have been discoveries of techniques and symbols from diverse cultures, including Tibet and ancient Egypt, that all have similarities to Reiki as we know it today. Recent discoveries trace the symbols and techniques to ancient cultures in southern India.
The story that we know today is of a gentleman named Dr. Mikao Usui. It is due to his research and discoveries that Reiki has found its way to the western world in the form it is now being taught.
The story began in the 1800’s in Kyoto.
